February 2011: Starting to get in a rhythm

The second month was easier and less stressful than the first. We were starting to get the hang of this whole parenting thing ('starting' being the operative word). Sailor smiled for the first time this month, which melted mine and Glen's hearts. There is something so rewarding about seeing your baby smile at you for the first time.

Sailor's first smile caught on camera.
Sailor Stats
  • Height - 23.9 in. (90th precentile)
  • Weight - 11 lbs. 12 oz. (75th percentile)
  • Head - 39 cm. (50th percentile)
  • First smile - 6 weeks
  • Began holding her head up herself around one and a half months.
  • Sailor was diagnosed with GERD (reflux) and began taking medication for it. She spit up excessively and seemed to be in pain during and after meals. She started with Zantac to ensure that medication would help and later moved to Prevacid, since Prevacid was only required to be taken once a day as opposed to every four hours with Zantac. It seemed to help with her discomfort, but definitely didn't help with the spit up. I was still changing my clothes (and hers) multiple times a day.
  •  Due to spitting up more after being breastfed than drinking from a bottle that was pumped, I decided to start pumping. In addition, it was too hard to breastfeed while I was in school.

Still lots of sleeping. I love the positions she fell asleep in.

"Oops.. I made a doo-doo."
It was hard to keep her awake for Skype sessions. Glen thinks she looks like Jabba the Hut in this picture.
Thanks for your help, baby girl.. with those hands that appear to be as large as your head.
Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Klumker, Sailor's car seat was decked out.

Sailor was still spending a lot of time under her gazebo. However, she'd often get fussy within the first few minutes of being under it because she wanted to be held.
Sailor HATED tummy time, so I had to find creative ways to get her to do it. This is where her favorite toy comes in. I would literally push the button, run to another room to do something and then run back in to push the button again.
Sailor was finally big enough to start using her jumper. Well.. "big enough" are such relative words. We had to wedge a blanket in there with her and put a box under her feet, but she seemed to like it!

We were bored in church so, naturally, Glen decided to see if he could fit his hand around Sailor's head. Turns out he can.

Cousins Clover and Samantha

Sailor loved taking baths but the second we took her out, she acted like we were sawing her in half. Thanks to Grandma Young, we finally discovered that she wouldn't make a peep if we turned on Justin Bieber's "Baby" music video for her. She had serious Bieber Fever.

"Somebody get me a lemonade."

Our little burrito. Whenever Sailor got fussy, swaddling her immediately calmed her down. She was swaddled at bedtime for about the first five months of her life.
